Advanced data processing with GAMIT/GLOBK/TRACK

Apr 4-5, 2012, Thessaloniki, Greece

This two day advanced workshop is aimed at users already familiar with the basic operations of GAMIT, GLOBK and TRACK and with working in the UNIX environment.  The workshop will held over two days with the first day dealing with GAMIT/GLOBK, and the second day dealing with TRACK.  Each day will be divided into lectures in the morning and tutorial sessions in the afternoons. In the GAMIT/GLOBK session, under GAMIT we will look at advanced data modeling methods in GAMIT and identifying problems such as incorrect antenna types.  The bulk of the class will be spent on GLOBK analysis methods including reference frame realization, use of MIT global H-files, treatment of earthquakes including post-seismic deformation, analysis of large data sets with particular attention on numerical stability issues and stacking of data, the use of SINEX for importing and exporting results, and noise processes appropriate for tectonic studies. The tutorial session in the afternoon will analyze data collected during a moderate size earthquake and how these data are combined in GLOBK.

The second day will deal with TRACK again with lectures in the morning and tutorial in the afternoon. The TRACK lectures will cover kinematic processing issues focused on long baseline results incorporating the impact of the ionospheric delays, methods for resolving the integer phase ambiguities and the impact of non-resolved ambiguities and incorrectly resolved ambiguities. The output diagnostics from TRACK will also be discussed. If there is interest from the class, the real-time version of TRACK, trackRT, will also be discussed.   Extensive experience with track processing is not required for the second day.  In the tutorial session we will focus on long baseline analysis of high rate surface wave data from an earthquake in Southern California.

During the tutorial sessions, students may work on their own data sets and issues associated with these data sets can be discussed. Prior to the workshop, topics of particular interest can be suggested and if possible they will be accommodated in the workshop.  Students are expected to bring a laptop with the software installed and have already run basic data analyses with the software.

Workshop logistics

The workshop is being held in collaboration with the ÒThe use of Geodetic data/tools for Seismologic and Volcanological applicationsÓ conference organized through the third joint HemusNET International Conference (www.hemus-net.org).  Details of the conference can be found at http://eposwg4.gein.noa.gr/.  Registration details are available from Dr Athanassios Ganas aganas@noa.gr.
